The band program at Marysville Schools begins at the Elementary Schools in the 5th grade where students choose band as an extracurricular activity. These bands are taught by the elementary school music teacher.
Students at the Middle School may join band at their grade level and are taught during the school day. There are 6th, 7th and 8th grade concert bands at Marysville Middle School who perform periodically throughout the year.
At the High School level there are two bands: A Freshman Band and a band comprised of 10th, 11th and 12th grade students (The Viking Regiment). These bands learn marching techniques used in competitions and play for all home football games in the fall. They continue in concert band and performances for the remainder of the year and form a Pep Band for winter sports home games. Optional Jazz Band and Jazz Ensemble are offered as extracurricular options for any high school student choosing to play jazz.
Practices for the 10th, 11th, and 12th grade Viking Regiment are an hour prior to and an hour into regular class time four days per week in the fall. Also, mandatory marching competitions take place on scheduled Saturdays in the fall at various locations throughout Michigan.
The Freshman Band practices during class time only and does not participate in Saturday marching competitions.
The Intermediate School and High School BAND CLASS GRADING POLICIES are distributed to the students each semester by the Band Director.
